Pioneer holds a patent on the technology for estimating gas and electricity mileage of vehicles.
This technology is derived from a massive amount of probe data on the driving speed and distances of vehicles
in which Pioneer car navigation systems are installed, as well as from extensive analyses of traffic congestion records obtained from the probe data.
Our patented technology uses three variables—kinetic energy, potential energy, and air resistance—to calculate
a vehicle’s fuel consumption every second to estimate with remarkable accuracy the total amount of gas or electricity
consumed by the vehicle on the traveled route. To achieve even greater accuracy,
we factor critically important traffic congestion information and probe data
in our database into estimating gas and electricity mileage.
Pioneer has a technology for searching for optimal vehicle travel routes on demand
by using our own proprietary algorithm that takes into account real-time information about traffic congestion
and even the number of traffic lights on the route and the total predicted time of stops at red lights.

The system uses a sophisticated algorithm and a massive amount of probe data stored in our database to estimate with remarkable accuracy your vehicle’s CO2 emissions and gas mileage—electricity mileage if it is an EV—regardless of the make of vehicle. The system also generates a heat map that visualizes your vehicle’s mileage performance.
The system takes into account such elaborate parameters as the road’s gradient ratio and other conditions, the traffic volume per second on the route, and the record of the vehicle’s traveling speed and acceleration rate in order to calculate the vehicle’s gas or electricity mileage that is as close to a real-world performance as possible.

The Piomatix for Green makes life easier for EV drivers by providing solutions for easing their concern over EVs’ trip distance on a single charge and the availability of charging stations in their neighborhood.
Solutions provided to EV drivers are based on Pioneer’s proprietary technologies for vehicle mileage estimation and routing and include searching for conveniently located charging stations, recommending energy-efficient travel routes, and displaying an area on a digital map that can be traveled on a single charge or on a remaining battery capacity.
This service provides EV-friendly features, such as searching for conveniently located charging stations from among 30,000 of them around the country, displaying an area on a digital map that can be traveled by an EV without recharging, navigating an EV on a route with a charging station on the way. The service also provides a maximum possible travel distance without recharging based on the vehicle’s travel record or a distance that can be traveled on a fully charged battery depending on the type of vehicle. This service is intended to address the concern that EV drivers may have over batteries running low and assist businesses and municipalities in switching their fleets of cars to EVs.
This Web API service includes solutions intended for EV drivers: an API for estimating travel distance, based on a precise estimation of an EV’s power consumption rate; and an API for recommending an EV-friendly travel route, based on the availability and usage conditions of charging stations on the route.
For non-EV application, we will offer an API for calculating enterprise CO2 emissions and an API for recommending energy-efficient travel routes to assist businesses in preparing environmental performance reports and implementing carbon-neutral solutions as part of their SDGs initiatives.
We assist municipalities, trucking and taxi companies, and other businesses in making informed decisions when considering switching their fleets of vehicles to EVs. This service enables them to run a model to weigh the quantitative benefits of switching to EVs—in terms of reduction in vehicle CO2 emissions, as well as economic gains and operational efficiency. GPS tracking data on a current fleet of gas-powered vehicles—gathered with smartphones—is all it takes to run a model for each usage case of EVs.
