Toshiyuki Amaya, Makoto Takanashi, Kazuhiro Miyamoto, Yasuhiko Watanabe

Summary

This paper describes the development of a RemoteCastBB Server system. The system is implemented on an Asset Management System called CyberLoft. Since the communication protocol between the server and terminals is based on V AAM+, RemoteCastBB Server is built on CyberLoft as a server platform. All signage data in the RemoteCastBB Server , displayed on each terminal, are managed as assets on CyberLoft platform, and logging data of each terminal, uploaded into the RemoteCastBB Server, are also managed as assets in almost the same mechanism as other signage data. The RemoteCastBB Server processes both Digital Signage management of assets and Digital Signage operations simulta-neously on the CyberLoft platform. The service performance of RemoteCastBB Server is also evaluated in this paper.

6.A Method for Detecting Highlights of Music by Chord Progressions and Its Application to Embedded Systems

Shinichi Gayama

Summary

The author has proposed a method for detecting highlights of music by chord progres-sions and applied it to embedded systems. A highlight of music, known by the Japanese word "sabi", which is one of the more expressive parts in a piece of music, tends to appear more frequently than others. So it can be detected by means of identifying similar parts that appear repeatedly in the music, calculating the cross-correlation of partial chord progressions extracted from the waveform of music in advance.
The author has also succeeded in achieving the efficient calculation required of embedded systems, because chord-progressions are capable of representing similarity of music with little information. As a result of this implementation, although it had been difficult for previous methods to meet the above requirement, the proposed method can produce sufficient performance for practical use, and can detect highlights of 308 songs correctly among the 340 Japanese pops music used in the experiment.

2.Electron beam mastering beyond 200 Gb/in2 density

Masahiro Katsumura, Yasuo Hosoda, Hiroaki Kitahara, Masaki Kobayashi, Megumi Sato, Osamu Kasono, Kazunobu Hashimoto, Tetsuya Iida, Kazumi Kuriyama and Fumihiko Yokogawa

Summary

In an electron beam recorder that has a capability to record beyond 200 Gbit/in2 density, the scattering of electrons deteriorates patterning resolution. Therefore control of electron scattering is important to realize density patterning beyond 200 Gbit/in2. Thus we adopted a new substrate, which is made of carbon that reduces the influence of the electron back scattering, and succeeded to record over 200 Gbit/in2 density.

3.High accuracy marker position detection of hologram memory

Michikazu Hashimoto, Kiyoshi Tateishi, Yoshimi Tomita

Summary

In the signal processing of a hologram memory system it is important to detect the recorded area accurately from the reproduction image. Template matching is a method of position detection, but it has insufficient accuracy. Therefore the estimation of the sub-pixel position after the template matching is required. We devised the method that estimates the sub-pixel position by the center of gravity of the correlation coefficient, and experimented with this. As a result, the sub-pixel position could be detected more accurately than a conventional method with few calculations.

4.Ultra high-density digital data storage by SNDM ferroelectric probe memory

Kenjiro Fujimoto, Hirokazu Takahashi, Takanori Maeda, Atsushi Onoe

Summary

Ferroelectric probe memory is expected as a candidate of next generation huge-capacity digital data storage system. In this paper we report quasi-digital data recording experiments to evaluate the realization of real data storage system. We also report the fabrication trial and evaluation of durable electro-conductive diamond probe head. Firstly, ferroelectric read/write experiments using congruent LiTaO3 single crystal media were performed using two different signal patterns. One was a pseudo DVD signal and the other was a dot-matrix signal which is suitable for higher density recording. The ferroelectric reproduction technique used in our experiments was based on the scanning nonlinear dielectric microscope (SNDM) technique. Secondly, Electro-conductive diamond probes were fabricated using micro electro mechanical systems (MEMS) processes. We confirmed that this probe could be used as a probe for the ferroelectric probe memory by actually doing record reproduction to the ferroelectric medium with it.

5.Fabrication of Blue/Red Two-Wavelength Laser Diodes using Laser Lift-Off Technique

Mamoru Miyachi , Yoshinori Kimura , Yasuhiro Mimura , Atsushi Onoe

Summary

An integrated two-wavelength laser diode (TWLD) which emits 405-nm-band and 650-nm-band laser beams from a single chip has been realized for the first time. The TWLD was fabricated by transferring a GaN-based laser diode (LD) onto an AlGaInP-based LD using a laser lift-off technique. Threshold currents in laser operations were 82 mA and 48 mA for the wavelengths of 405 nm and 652 nm, respectively. The GaN-based LD maintained its intrinsic property throughout the transfer onto the AlGaInP-based LD. The distance between two emission spots was approximately 3 µm. Such a close spot distance allows the optical components of the pickup to be substantially simplified.

Nobuyasu Negishi, Ryota Tanaka, Tomonari Nakada, Kazuto Sakemura, Yoshiyuki Okuda, Hideo Satoh, Atsushi Watanabe, Takamasa Yoshikawa, Kiyohide Ogasawara

Summary

As previously reported, the emission characteristics of the metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) electron emission device could be significantly improved by introducing micro-dimple structures as the emission sites. It is demonstrated that the device has some desirable features: a high emission current density, a low operation voltage, emission uniformity, and stable emission with small angle dispersion. It is also shown from the result of lifetime evaluation that the device shows a half-life of 3000 h, and that the deteriorated emission can be recovered by DC reactivation treatment.

7.Reduction of Operating Voltage in Organic Light-Emitting Diode by Corrugated Photonic Crystal Structure

Masayuki Fujita, Tetsuya Ueno, Kuniaki Ishihara, Takashi Asano, Susumu Noda, Hiroshi Ohata, Taishi Tsuji, Hitoshi Nakada, and Noriyuki Shimoji

Summary

A reduction of the operating voltage is achieved for an organic light-emitting diode containing a corrugated photonic crystal structure fabricated by the etching of an indium-tin-oxide anode layer. This is due to a partial reduction in the thickness of the organic layer. The light extraction efficiency can be also improved due to the diffraction of confined light by the photonic crystal effect. The voltage reduction is successfully demonstrated in combination with an improvement in the luminance efficiency at constant current for the fabricated device.

8.Red phosphorescent OLEDs for Practical Use

Taishi Tsuji, Toshinao Yuki, Tsuyoshi Naijo

Summary

We have developed high-efficiency, long-life organic light-emitting diode (OLED) devices by introducing red phosphorescent dopants into bis(2-methyl-8-quinolinolato)(p-phenylphenolato)aluminum (BAlq) and NS11. The devices exhibited luminance efficiency of 12 cd/A at CIE color coordinates (0.65, 0.35). The luminance half-decay lifetime is expected to be over 30,000 hours at an initial luminance of 700 cd/m2. Moreover, the devices had higher efficiency than fluorescent devices under high-duty pulse driving. We have successfully incorporated these devices into commercial OLED displays.

Flicker Reduction Schemes in MPEG-2 Video by Post-Processing

Yoshimichi Otsuka

Abstract

Television signals are not linear in an electrical domain because of gamma encoding inside a video camera. It is quite possible that picture degradation is caused in an optical domain but never done in an electrical one. An example is the flicker caused by the gamma decoding when MPEG-2 decoded pictures are displayed. This paper introduces the mechanism of flicker generation and describes flicker reduction schemes by post-processing the MPEG-2 decoded video signals.
