Pioneer Develops AI Agent for Next-Level in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) with Microsoft FoundryAI and cloud solutions combine to bring innovative UX and greater safety to a variety of vehicles
Pioneer Corporation has engaged in a collaboration with Microsoft since 2023 to harness generative AI technology to innovate mobility experiences for drivers. In this collaboration, Pioneer uses Microsoft Foundry to enhance the user experience (UX) of its products and services.
The collaborative efforts between the two companies have culminated in a project aimed at developing an advanced AI agent for the next-level in-vehicle infotainment (IVI).
In the automotive industry, connected and AI-enabled vehicles have gained prominence globally. Even in price-sensitive emerging markets, AI and digital solutions have been incorporated into a growing number of onboard cockpit systems, and drivers of entry-level vehicles are increasingly seeking enhanced UX. To meet these emerging needs, this AI agent provides improved versatility and expandability, facilitated by its scalable design and Microsoft’s AI and cloud technologies. Furthermore, the AI agent is compatible with a diverse range of vehicles, from entry-level to premium-grade models, providing drivers of those vehicles with a more natural and sophisticated UX.
The integration of Pioneer AI management software module and Azure OpenAI in Foundry Models enables the AI agent incorporated into our IVI to seamlessly integrates onboard systems and cloud-based services. The versatile multi-language support provided by Microsoft Foundry makes the AI agent compatible with a diverse range of vehicles, from entry-level to premium-grade models, and with different languages spoken in different regions. It also has the flexibility for future functional enhancements.
The versatile voice command integrated into the AI agent enables the driver to control a diverse range of onboard systems, including air conditioning and car navigation services*, such as destination search and routing guidance, as well as music playback and messaging.
The AI agent featuring voice command with natural language recognition frees the driver from the need to manually operate buttons and switches on nonessential onboard devices. This enables the driver to concentrate on safe driving.
The data that users load into Microsoft Foundry remains private and is managed within a secure environment. It is not used for training OpenAI models or shared with third parties without user consent. Microsoft Foundry can be integrated with customer-defined models, and its security design complies with international data security standards to ensure reliability and user security in the global market.
Microsoft’s AI cloud services provide multi-language support for use in diverse regions.
Pioneer is dedicated to integrating AI and cloud solutions to make mobility experiences safer and more comfortable for drivers around the globe.
