Pioneer Corporation, Tokyo, Japan, has announced the release in Japan of the SH-DTR1000 BS Digital Tuner with a built-in hard disk drive, which fully conforms to all BS digital broadcasts and services.

This new product is able to record up to 5 hours of BS digital Hi-Vision high-definition programs and play them back with high resolution quality, just as they were broadcast. In addition, it can digitally record analog terrestrial TV broadcast programs or other external video sources for up to 48 hours (in LP mode).

The hard disk capability of the SH-DTR1000 also offers such useful features as Time-Shift Viewing, with which users can enjoy TV programs anytime, regardless of their broadcast time.

The SH-DTR1000 is a product fit for the 21st century, the digital broadcasting age, creating a new way of enjoying TV programs and services which current video recorders are unable to offer.

1 ) Conforms to all the BS digital TV broadcasts and services

The SH-DTR1000 conforms to all the various types of BS digital broadcast services, officially launched in December 2000. They include "Hi-Vision" high definition TV broadcasts, digital radio broadcasts, and digital data broadcasts, as well as such interactive services as audience participation programs and TV shopping. It also enables users to enjoy "multi-view" broadcasting, by which users can select any one of several images sent at the same time.

2 ) Large Capacity 60 GB Hard Disk offers simple and long-hour video recording

A set of two, newly-developed 30GB audio/video hard disks allows users to record BS digital "Hi-Vision" TV programs for up to 5 hours, or analog terrestrial TV broadcast programs or other external video sources for up to 48 hours (in LP mode). Also, the highly accurate MPEG encoder with built-in TBC* offers conversion from analog signals of terrestrial TV broadcasts and external video sources to digital signals for high-quality video recording and playback.

3 ) Useful Recording/Playback that Best Utilizes the Hard Disk Drive

  1. "Chase" and "Hold-on" features
    Making the best use of hard disk high-speed access capability, users can enjoy time-shift viewing that allows them to play back a program that has already started* from the beginning, or to pause and continue to watch the current program from the very spot where it was left off. Moreover, users can catch up with real-time broadcasts by pressing the "Live" button on the remote control unit, then enjoy the programs without being restricted to program schedules.

    * Users need to have the power ON and their desired channel set in advance.
  2. EPG quick record preset
    Built-in EPG (Electronic Program Guide) gives users an easy-to-read view and search of the BS digital TV and radio program schedule, enabling users to easily select their favorite programs. In addition, using the "Program Record Preset" feature, only by selecting programs from the timetable can users easily preset to record those programs to the built-in hard disk, without manually instructing the program's start/end time.
  3. "Always" and "Favorite" buttons that enable users to check the latest information from their favorable programs anytime
    Pre-selecting categories and channels of BS digital broadcasts of such information as news or weather forecasts, users can view their updated information at any time with the "Always" button on the remote control unit. Moreover, presetting their favorite daily/weekly dramas or variety shows with the "Favorite" button will automatically record and overwrite the programs.
  4. Wide variety of trick plays features slow replay, skip and jump
    Users will enjoy unique benefits of hard disk ecording, such as high-speed fast-forward/backward (up to 30 times the normal speed), and skip and jump, which quickly locates a desired sequence. Also, extra-smooth slow-motion replay assures that users will never miss their favorite scenes.
  5. "Recording List" that quickly finds recorded programs
    By displaying a list of recorded programs on the hard disk users can locate these programs instantly. They can also easily continue watching from where the program was paused using the "Resume" feature, and play it back from a specific sequence, chosen with a touch of a button during recording, with the "Book Mark" feature.
  6. Simple dubbing of contents from the hard diskinto other recorders
    Connecting the SH-DTR1000 with users' DVD-recorder or another video recorder will easily dub or save recorded contents from the hard disk to other recorders*1. "Auto Pilot Recording" feature operates the connected recorder and automatically starts recording with the use of the attached video control unit*2.

    *1: Dubbing /saving some contents to DVD disc or video cassette is not possible.
    *2: Some recorders do not work.
  7. "List Play" feature that plays back desired programs in desired order
    Built-in "List Play" feature allows users to select and play back favorite programs from the "Record list" in a pre-determined order. Using "Auto Plot Recording" function at the same time will easily generate a video library of favorite programs.

4 ) AAC5.1ch Output Available with Optical Digital Audio Output Terminal

The optical digital audio output terminal allows direct digital output of AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) signals, the standard audio format for BS digital broadcasts.

* Users need to connect the optical digital output terminal to AAC-ready AV amplifier to reproduce AAC5.1-channel sound.
