< Planning Concept >

Last year in Japan, 650,000 car navigation systems were sold. Among them, the DVD type has become popular. In particular, Pioneer DVD models have received rave reviews because of their stellar features, such as epoch-making 3D map displays and exceptionally high accuracy in its positioning system . Other factors fueling the popularity of Pioneer models are their voice-recognition control system, hands-free cellular phone operation and Internet communications capability.
In developing this year's models, Pioneer refined their hardware and software based on the concept of providing customers with both practical benefits and many entertainment features.
Pioneer's High IQ Precision technology not only enhances its positioning accuracy - the most important function of a car navigation system - but improves the quality of display with the Driver's View and Visual City Map 3D displays, while providing the world's first Underground Parking Lot Maps.
Moreover, the voice-recognition control system and communications functions were designed for easy operation. These navigation systems also support the electronic toll collection (ETC) system, which will be introduced within this year.
Indeed, Pioneer's new car navigation systems are designed for driving pleasure and convenience.

< Main Features for DVD Car Computers >
("AVIC-D9100", "AVIC-D9900", "AVIC-D9900V")

Improved High IQ Precision for Greater Car Positioning Accuracy

Along with the incorporation of a brand new Crystal 3D Hybrid Sensor, all the other technologies, such as the Precision Chip, Real Hybrid Processing, and IQ Map Matching, have been improved to boost positioning accuracy. The results: highly detailed, accurate maps, including underground parking lot maps, as well as a driver's view feature.

State-of-the-Art Functions Built Into the Main Unit

  • Built-in Communications Data Adapter provides a variety of communications functions and the Voice-recognition Function enhances easy and safe operation.
  • Built-in VICS FM Multiplex Tuner is provided; a VICS Beacon Receiver is also included in the AVIC-D9900V.
  • Optional ETC Unit supports ETC services.
  • PC Card Slot provides connectivity to a DVD video player, PC, or digital camera.
  • External Camera Terminal provides connectivity to a rear camera available in the after market.

< Main Car Navigation Functions >

1 ) More Realistic 3D Map Display.

Landmarks such as gas stations and convenience stores are indicated in realistic 3D. The Driver's View feature, showing maps from the viewpoint of the driver, is made available, thanks to High IQ Precision.

  • Directional signs in front of intersections and lane information for right and left turns were added to the popular Driver's View feature. Easy-to-recognize landmarks, such as gasoline stations, convenience stores, family restaurants, are also realistically displayed in 3D.

750 Cities Nationwide Presented in More Realistic Visual City Maps

  • City maps were expanded to include approximately 750 cities throughout Japan in a 3D realism showing actual building heights. If the 25m/10m scale is selected, street views are realistically rendered, even displaying the windows of buildings. At night, the windows are lit up to provide attractive night views of the streets.
  • A building name display function is provided to automatically display the names of buildings as they are approached.

2 ) Industry's First Underground Parking Lot Maps Made Possible with High IQ Precision

  • A gyro sensor detects slopes at the entrances and exits of parking lots and automatically displays the appropriate underground parking lot map. In multi-level parking lots, the gyro sensor automatically senses the floor the driver is on and displays the corresponding map.
  • Maps show not only the entrances and exits but other details such as elevators, toll booths, and rest rooms.
  • Maps for 16 underground parking lots in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka are provided.

3 ) Road Direction Displays and Lane Displays Give Advance Information on Traffic Conditions

Road Direction Displays and Guides show which way to proceed

  • Direction guide signs for a road and similar information at 300 meters prior to intersections are automatically displayed regardless driving routes have been set or not.
  • When routes have been set, a voice gives guidance of directions to the driver.

Lane Information Displays and Guides show which lanes to use

  • Whether or not a driving route has been set, lane information when approaching an intersection is automatically displayed.
  • When a driving route has been set, lanes to be followed are color-coded and a voice gives directions to the driver to make right or left turns.

4 ) State-of-the-Art Communications Capability Combines Cellular Phone and Car Navigation Functions

New Weather Live feature is capable of displaying rainfall information.

Drivers can view not only weather forecasts but the amount of precipitation, wind direction and speed, based on information downloaded from a dedicated server via the Internet.* Weather conditions throughout Japan are displayed on the navigation maps.

* Weather information provided by Weather Line Co., Ltd.

5 ) Support for the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) System

When the optional ETC unit, the ND-ETC1, is connected, Pioneer's new car navigation systems can communicate with antennas installed at tollbooths along toll roads and automatically pay the tolls. Linked with the ETC, a voice from the car navigation system guides the driver to the ETC lane and lets the driver know the amount of the toll paid after passing through the gate.

6 ) Other Car Navigation Functions Four Times Faster*, Plus More Convenient Door-to-Door Search

  • Parking Lot Point Link Route Search guides the driver to the parking lots of large facilities such as amusement parks.
  • Registered Route Search utilizes user-registered information on shortcuts and bypasses in determining driving routes.
    * Compared with Pioneer models of the previous year

Versatile Search Function with Vastly Enlarged Data Base for Pinpoint Searches

  • Pinpoint Search of approximately 26 million locations throughout Japan is possible by entering their address.
  • Pinpoint Search of approximately 30 million private homes* and approximately 11 million business facilities throughout Japan can be made by entering their telephone number.
    * Home telephone number data derived from "Bellemax" (January to December 1999) published by Nihon Software Co., Ltd.)
  • Search By Theme allows the driver to search for places to go for specific activities such as viewing of cherry blossoms or autumn leaves.
  • Drive Guide provides information about sightseeing spots.
  • Search for Facilities Based on Business Hours shows facilities such as gas stations and convenience stores that are still open for business.

Equipped with PC Card Slot for linking with external units

  • DVD-Video discs can be played by inserting an optional DVD-Video card, (CNVC-1000II).
  • The Digital Camera Link feature allows pasting of photos taken with a digital camera onto the car navigator's maps.
  • The PC Link feature works in combination with MapFan4 map software from Increment P, allowing PCs to exchange information, such as registered locations, routes, and trace data, via a PC card.

7 ) AVX-P7700W Wide-Screen A/V System TV Pack

  1. 7-inch In-dash LCD TV Monitor utilizes motor drive mechanism
When the switch is turned on, the system's motor-drive mechanism automatically raises the TV monitor for viewing. The angles of view can also be adjusted.
  2. A/V System TV Monitor supports various devices
In addition to its connectivity to a Pioneer car audio or car navigation system, this A/V system can be used as a standalone TV, thanks to a built-in FM transmitter.

8 ) TV-W8800 Wide LCD TV Pack

  1. 8-inch Wide LCD TV, largest in the industry, now available in a much more affordable price range
  2. New Intelligent Dimmer sets brightness to match the driver's taste
Brightness in the low-reflection panel is automatically adjusted to ensure easy visibility during dawn and dusk and other times when external light conditions vary.

9 ) TVM-W8000 Wide LCD Monitor

This is a monitor without TV tuner having an 8-inch wide LCD screen designed for cars. It can be used as a large-screen monitor for a car navigation system or as a rear monitor for a DVD car theater system.
