News Release：Pioneer Announces the Introduction of New DVD Car Navigation Products

TOKYO, Japan, May 10, 1999 --- Pioneer Electronic Corporation announced the introduction of three new DVD-ROM based car navigation systems, two car wide-screen LCD TV and related products to the Japanese market.

AVIC-D9000

< Background of the Development >

In 1998, sales quantity of car navigation products in Japan has reached to 570,000pcs.(after market only), and it resulted in 20% higher than that of the previous year. Especially, DVD-ROM based car navigation products has been rising its market share because of its huge capacity of information data and unprecedented variety of entertaining contents. Pioneer has been a leader of car navigation products:
In June 1997, Pioneer successfully introduced the industry's first DVD car navigation systems to the Japanese market, and in 1998, introduced the industry's first Single Sided, Dual Layer DVD-ROM for its navigation systems. Pioneer's concept in developing car navigation products is to unify its convenient use and entertaining factors. Because traffic safety regulations are becoming strict in Japan recently, the newly developed products feature various functions for the safety driving.

AVIC-D9000/AVIC-D7000/AVIC-D9500 (DVD Car Computer)

The size of main units has become about 40% smaller than the previous models, however, they are installed with latest CPU featuring 32bit RISC Chip, vast volume "SDRAM" , newly developed drawing processor for more sophisticated map display, LCD pick-up for DVD, and FM Multi-Channel Tuner for receiving VICS (Vehicle Information Communication System) and D-GPS (Differential Global Positioning System). The functionality has been improved a great deal.

1 ) High fidelity map displays

• Driver's View gives you a realistic map picture as you see from the driving seat.

• 3D-graphic map displays realistic scenery on the right hand side of the screen and normal map will be also displayed on the left side. It is easy for drivers to recognize where they are by referring to the map and the scenery around them. (The driver's view map is available anywhere in Japan.)
• Clearly displays even complicated inter-city highway information. Eye-catching gas stations or shops are displayed as land marks with its designed signs.

• Visual City Map Display (3D-graphic)

• For about 400 cities areas in Japan, the map gives you realistic 3-D illustrations of surrounding buildings.
• High-speed drawing processor enables easy operation (zoom/scroll) of map displays.

2 ) Featuring easy-operated latest communication function for the first time in the industry.

• Hands-free communication with mobile phones by using microphone for voice recognition and speaker for voice-guidance.

• Data adapter for communication data is built-in, realizing easy communication functions.

• Weather forecast for the coming two days is downloaded through web site, and utilizing this forecast, the map is displayed as such local weather forecast and the sky view patterns are changed according to the forecasted weather.
  
  When setting the route by car navigation, voice guidance informs the driver of the weather in the destination. at the the expected arrival time. (Ex. It says "The weather of XXXX(destination) at the expected arrival time will be fine, no rain forecasted, and the temperature will be 18 degrees." )

• Access to web sites of places shown on the map is easily achieved.

3 ) Very high accuracy of positioning information

Equipped with a special chip for processing accurate positioning information; upgraded "3D Highbrid Censor" , pulse, GPS, D-GPS and "3D map matching data" .

< Pioneer's extra attention for safe driving >

1. Newly developed car navigation products all adopt voice recognition function, achieving much more simple operation such as "Category Direct Start" , which directly starts searching the place just after the driver says the category of the choice.
2. Eye-friendly maps: "Driver's view map" and "Visual city map" for easy recognition.
3. Hands-free communication with mobile phones, so drivers can make a call, keeping their hands on steering wheels.

(For functions of 1 and 2 with "AVIC-D7000/D9500" , an optional communication/voice recognition kit "CD-HV100" is necessary.)

4 ) New other functions

• Equipped with a PC card slot, connecting other equipment with car navigation products (AVIC-D9000/D9500)

• Drivers can enjoy DVD-Video software by inserting the optional DVD-Video card "CNVC-1000" , loaded with MPEG 2 decoder, to a PC card slot.
• Original photos taken by digital camera can be added on the map display. When the car comes near to the spot, the added original photo appears on the map display, which drivers can enjoy his original map display.
• By linking with map software for computers ( "Map Fan" from Increment P Corp.) by using PC card, user can receive various information from computers.

• Voice recognition function

• New products all have voice recognition function, realizing simple and safe operation. (For AVIC-D7000/D9500, an optional kit for communication/voice recognition "CD-HV100" is necessary.)
• Achieved more "natural conversation" type voice recognition.
• "Zooming Scroll Function"
  High-speed drawing processing enables easy zoom-up/down of map display even while scrolling.
• "Hyper Twin Scroll Function"
  When scrolling in fast speed, a map display is automatically divided into two, showing a larger scale map simultaneously.
• "Auto Free Zoom Function"
  Upgraded auto scale change function automatically changes the map display to a larger scale map when the driver comes near to intersection.

• Convenient route guidances

• Car navigation system automatically learns the route where driver often uses, even if it is not a popular route.
• Route guidance is so accurate that it guides the driver really near to the destination even if it is a very narrow road.
• Maximum 6-route guidance is offered to the driver with the combination of various route conditions.
• If the driver goes away to the different route accidentally from the guided route, re-route guidance will be offered instantaneously.
• Driver can set the different route condition according to each visiting spot.

• Various navigation data

• Data of approx. 3,000 places for enjoying various fresh foods and gourmet spots.
• Data of approx. 2,000 places of recommendation to visit such as beautiful scenery and famous festival sites.
• Information of available parking lots and ATM of banks and post offices is easily shown on the display, with the information of business hours, which is already included in navigation systems.

• Others

• Equipped with "Extension In/Out terminal" for receiving information of ETC (Electronic Toll Collection), one of the main information of ITS (Integrated Transport System).
• "Sound Trap Function"
  When driver comes near to each spot, its related sounds will entertain the driver. (Ex. At sea side; a chirp of gull, school; sound of bell and etc.)

TV-W8000 ( "P side P" 8.0 inch Wide- Screen LCD TV Package)

1 ) High quality, light weight and thin body 8.0 inch wide-screen LCD TV, the largest display size in the industry.

To be installed in 1-DIN space of center console by using a DIN-mount clamp "AD-V808" , which is already introduced to the Japanese market.

2 ) Versatile displays on wide-screen monitor

• Display monitor can be divided into 12, so that maximum 12 broadcast stations can be viewed at once.

• "P side P" (Picture side Picture) display --- Display is divided into two. "P in P" (Picture in Picture) display --- A small display appears in the main display.

• New "intelligent dimmer" and low-reflect panel adjust back lighting of LCD depending on outside brightness, optimize visibility of the display.

• Other features

• Loaded with area preset function so as to directly select receivable TV stations by connecting to car navigation products. (Combined with "AVIC-D9000/D7000" , the function is activated.)

AVX-P7000W (7.0 inch Wide-Screen AV System TV)

1 ) Automatic flip-up operation of 7.0 inch wide-screen LCD in-dash display monitor.

2 ) Connecting with "AVIC-D9000" , "P side P" display is achieved showing a map and TV side by side on the same display.

3 ) By RGB connection with DVD car navigation system, bright map display as well as various functions is achieved. (* In RGB connection with "AVIC-D9000/D7000" , an optional kit "CD-61RGB" is necessary.)

• Linked with car navigation, area preset function enables to select any local TV stations.
