News Release：Pioneer Introduces New "Carrozzeria" Brand Car Products Built-in Power MOS FET45 Amplifier in 1Din size Head Unit for the First Time in the Industry

Tokyo, Japan, Feb 4, 1999 --- Pioneer Electronic Corporation announced to introduce its new “Carrozzeria" brand car stereos and related product to the Japanese domestic market.
For the first time in the industry, Pioneer has succeeded in developing built-in MOS FET45 ^*1 amplifier in 1Din size head unit which enables to produce clear, noise-free and powerful sound.

< Background of the Development >

In the current car stereo market, digitalization of the media such as MD and CD is accelerating its share. Previously, in order to replay these digital media in a high quality sound, one had to have powerful audio systems which were quite expensive. To strengthen the lineups of affordable car products with various basic functions and high quality sound, Pioneer has succeeded in introducing the above-mentioned new products which is expected to expand the car audio market.

• For the first time in the industry, Pioneer has succeeded in adopting the Power MOS FET45 ^*1, high quality semiconductor which, up till today, only has been adopted to high-end external amplifiers, as built-in amplifier of main units. It is the first car stereo built-in amplifier that can feature 45W x 4ch high power output, realizing clear, crisper, detailed and less fatiguing sound with lower distortion ratio ^*2. (MEH-P5000 / DEH-P5000 / DEH-1000)

*1 MOS FET45 (Metal-Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor)

Field Effect Transistor (FET), with its higher input impedance, works only with a change of voltage whereas the common transistors work with a change of currents. Especially, when the structure is made of three layers; an electrode of Metal, a film of Oxide and a Silicon, it is called MOS FET45.
MOS FET45 has the feature of less switching distortion as well as accepting continuous high currents without occurring thermal stress. It prevents most electronic components from being destroyed by build-up of heat. Previously, it was difficult to adopt built-in MOS FET45 into car stereos since it was difficult to produce it in a compact size. Therefore, up till today, it has been used only for external high-end amplifiers.

• By adopting the newly developed high-density audio circuit, Pioneer has succeeded in adding an equalizer function to reasonable products:
  • Equipped with a Parametric equalizer of 3-Band 12 points and Q Factor. (KEH-P1000 is equipped with a 3-Band equalizer.)
    5 Factory Preset Equalization Curves and 1 User EQ Presets.
    (Super Bass/Powerful/Natural/Vocal/Flat/Custom).
  • Selectable Loudness Control (High/Mid/Low).
  • Selectable FIE (Front Image Enhancer).
• Equipped with Easy-Equalizer (Easy EQ) key which enables easy operation of choosing sound character according to the users choice. For some operation keys in MEH-P5000, a material called "Elastomer" is used which provides a texture like rubber.
