News Release：Pioneer Introduces New CD-ROM based Car Navigation Products, "RAKU-NAVI" Series to the Japanese Market

TOKYO, Japan, September 24, 1998 --- Pioneer Electronic Corporation announced to introduce new CD-ROM based car navigation products and related products to the Japanese Market.

< Background of the Development >

Pioneer Electronic Corporation introduced CD-ROM car navigation system, "RAKU-NAVI"(which means "easy operating navigation system" in English) series in February 1998. In these models, in addition to the fulfillment of navigation functions, voice control function has been newly added and easy operation has been achieved, which is highly accepted by consumers.

To strengthen the lineups of "RAKU-NAVI" market, six car navigation products and other related products are introduced to the Japanese market. From the view point of "fun and comfortable driving", Pioneer aimed at improving operation of Voice Control function of navigation, audio part and TV part to a more simple and fast response one, as well as fulfilling the basic functions of car navigation and realizing affordable price.

These days, the dashboard in a car is designed to accommodate car navigation systems for drivers to operate easily. In order to make the installation of car navigation products more easily, Pioneer achieved to develop products which the display and audio part is all-in-one in 2Din Size, realizing consumers demands for compact products.

< Main Features (common to all products) >

1 ) Fast and simple response of car navigation by improving its software which enables easy operation while driving.

• The newly developed car navigation products are all equipped with Voice Control function enabling easy operation while driving. Though drivers with previous models had to push the button all the time he wishes to utilize Voice Control function, the newly developed products only requires to push the button only once at the beginning of utilizing the function.
• "3D Sky View" function for easy recognition of the map by vertical (3D) display.
• "Free Zoom" function enables to change the scale of the map as well as enabling easy zoom-up/down.

2 ) More advanced navigation functions.

In addition to the "3D Sky View", "Twin View", and “Three Route Search” functions which are highly accepted by consumers, four new functions are added.

They are:

• “Side Map Display” function enables two different information such as traffic information and map information to appear on the same screen simultaneously side by side.
• When using “Super Area Map“ software, “Inside Facility Information” function enables to inform the driver of the inside facilities of a building by only clicking it on the map.
• Information of available parking lots of Department Stores.
• Set in the “Highway Mode”, drivers will easily know the highway fee when coming near to the exit of the highway.
• By setting the route, driver will easily know the highway fee to the destination .
• When the driver comes near to the exit of highway, voice guidance will inform the driver the highway fee.

3 ) CD-ROM Software of a map covering all Japan is included.

2. Easy operation by Voice Recognition function.
   Drivers can easily operate navigation, audio and TV by voice recognition function.
   Various G.U.I (Graphical User Interface) function also assists easy operation.

   Equipped with high power 35W x 4 amplifier for high quality music. Also user can connect multi CD/MD by using embedded additional terminal..
