TOKYO, Japan, May 14, 1998 ----- Pioneer Electronic Corporation announced its introduction of the following Portable DVD-Video Players, to the Japanese domestic market.

Pioneer has been cultivating the DVD market ever since it made its first introduction of DVD-Video Players in 1996. In 1997, Pioneer launched its flagship model “DV-S9” designed for the so-called “enthusiastic” user, and DVD/LD Compatible Model “DVL-909” which enjoys a large share in the Japanese domestic market. Pioneer currently forms the industry’s largest line-up of DVD players with its seven models.

Today, Pioneer introduces two portable DVD players to expand not only its variation of DVD products, but also the DVD market itself. Both models have a compact size of only 16cm in width and depth, and weighs less than 1kg. Although having a compact design, they can completely reproduce the high-quality picture, sound and versatile range of features that DVD can offer. The “PDV-LC01” features a built in 5.8-inch LCD Screen to allow viewing of DVD titles anywhere. A second model, the “ PDV-01”, is a model without a screen. With these to models, DVD title viewing can be enjoyed anywhere the user whishes.

Pioneer will continue to develop new DVD products for a broad type of users, to offer a new type of Audio-Video entertainment.

1 ) Compact Size

1. By combing a LCD Display and DVD Player in the PDV-LC01, and with its compact size, DVD title viewing can be enjoyed in/outdoors or even when traveling.

2. With its compact size, the PDV-01 can be carried around from room to room or even house to house easily, to enjoy DVD title viewing wherever a display may exist.

2 ) 5.8 Inch 16:9 Aspect Ratio Wide-Screen LCD Display (only PDV-LC01)

Equipped with a Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) type 5.8 Inch 16:9 aspect ratio Wide-Screen Full-Color Liquid Crystal Display, to deliver a razor sharp picture. Screen modes can switch between standard 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratio at the touch of a button set on the body.

3 ) High-Quality Picture and Sound (both models)

1. A 96kHz/24bit Audio D/A Converter has been applied to realize outstanding sound.
2. A 10bit Video D/A Converter to maximize picture quality.
3. The Virtual Surround Sound (V.S.S.) System can realize the same surround sound effect of Dolby Digital with only a pair of front speakers, when Dolby Digital recorded software is played-back.

4 ) wo-way Power Operation (AC 100V & optional rechargeable battery - both models)

The Two-way Power Operation adds flexibility in uses. Besides the rechargeable battery, an AC adapter provides power when used in homes and serves as a battery charger. With the rechargeable battery, the PDV-LC01 can replay 133 minutes worth of regular DVD title viewing.

5 ) Features for Easy Operation (both models)

1. The Joystick will allow easy operation of DVD player features and functions.
2. The Graphical User Interface (GUI) on screen display, which can be easily controlled by the Joystick, will simplify control of a versatile range of operations.
