Pioneer’s Carrozzeria CYBER NAVI has always pursued a spirit of innovation and managed to lead the industry in proposing new value. Equipped with functions that utilize communications and AR, drivers are provided with advanced value.
The latest CYBER NAVI supports the new Smart Loop eye※1 information sharing service, which combines the Smart Loop Probe Information System that utilizes communication functions with driving information from users employing on-board cameras. Using the Cruise Scouter Unit and Communication Module, the traffic situation and other information can be automatically collected and distributed as image information (in the form of still images) and shared between drivers※2※3. This means the traffic situation and other information can be checked using real image information, allowing drivers to enjoy secure and comfortable driving.
As the system supports※4 the AR HUD (Head-up Display) unit, which displays information overlaid in front of the windscreen, drivers can track the essential information instantly while reducing eye movement and refocusing. As well as improving on the performance of the AR Scouter Mode※5, which detects necessary information and projects it as AR information on top of the real scenery, the unit is equipped with a new Pedestrian Crossing Advance Warning function. What’s more, with the inclusion of the new voice-operated Free word Voice Search※6 online search function, drivers can easily search for facilities and other information just by vocalizing the keywords that come to mind, without having to perform complex input operations.
Pioneer will continue to propose various new functions such as the information sharing service utilizing image information to create secure and comfortable car driving experiences.
Also note that the new CYBER NAVI will be put on display ahead of its release at Pioneer Plaza Ginza (http://pioneer-ginza.jp/event_report/2013/05/59-2013new.html ) from Thursday, May 9, 2013.
1 ) Supports the new Smart Loop eye information sharing service able to share image information automatically recorded using a dedicated on-board camera with other drivers※2※3
Using the Cruise Scouter Unit and Communication Module, information such as the traffic situation can be automatically collected and distributed as image information (in the form of still images) and shared between drivers※2※3. Locations extracted from the probe information of Smart Loop such as the vicinity of parking lot entrances at popular spots and the area around intersections that often become congested, along with nationwide expressway facilities, are configured as Smart Loop eye spots, and locations from where traffic restriction information is being distributed are also automatically set as temporary spots. Images taken by new CYBER NAVI-equipped cars that pass through each spot can be shared to allow information such as the traffic situation to be checked using real images, enabling drivers to enjoy secure and comfortable driving.
Image information along the route up to a destination can be displayed in multiple windows on the map. As the display automatically switches to show images from the next spot on the route to be passed through, information can be monitored without any hassle.
Image information is displayed in multiple windows |
Displays can be switched to a detail screen |
Out of the Smart Loop eye spots from which image information is distributed, the driver can register up to ten spots they often pass through. Drivers can also search for Smart Loop eye spots near their vehicle’s location or any location they designate.
2 ) Supports the AR HUD (Head-up Display) unit, which displays necessary information overlaid in front of the windscreen※4
Projecting necessary information which is useful to the driver in front of the windscreen and overlaid on top the real scenery reduces driver eye movement and refocusing. All new models, including the latest AVIC-ZH0007, support the AR HUD unit.
AR HUD unit | The display, which is projected about three meters in front of the driver's eyes, is 90 cm across and 30 cm high, roughly equivalent to a 37 inch display |
・HUD driver mode
HUD driver mode displays information about the distance to the vehicle in front and the route to the destination by arranging the information in a way easy to understand. |
・HUD highway mode
HUD highway mode shows information such as the distances and estimated transit times to exits, and information about Service Area and Parking Area facilities. |
・HUD Map Mode
HUD Map Mode displays a map of the area around the vehicle, with toll roads, national roads and ordinary roads indicated using different colors. The map can be displayed at six different zoom levels, ranging in scale from 200m to 10km. |
3 ) Supports AR Scouter Mode, which detects necessary information and projects it on top of the real scenery※5
By improving camera performance, Pioneer has boosted the detection performance of the AR Scouter Mode, which analyzes images taken with the camera and displays information on top of the real scenery. The unit is also equipped with the new Pedestrian Crossing Advance Warning function which detects pedestrian crossings without traffic lights and notifies the driver with illustrations and sound effects, to facilitate secure and comfortable driving.

4 ) Equipped with the Free word Voice Search voice-operated online search function※6
By connecting to the dedicated server using the Dedicated Communication Module for Data Communications※7, drivers can search for facilities without having to perform complex input operations just by vocalizing keywords related to the destination.
By simply vocalizing keywords related to where you want to go,
facilities related to the destination are easily searched and are displayed on screen.
5 ) Update to the latest map data with no additional fee for the first three years※8
- Update via SD memory card (complete data update or difference update)
Using the Navi Studio (for CYBER NAVI) dedicated PC software, the latest map data can be easily obtained via SD memory card※9. Map data can be updated to the latest data with no additional fee for the first three years.
- Update via communication module (difference update)
The unit comes with※10 the Dedicated Communication Mobile for Data Communications※7 whose communication function can be used free of charge for the first three years, enabling map data updates※11 via the communication module. Users can enjoy comfortable driving using maps which are always up to date.
6 ) Achieves high-quality sound and supports a wide range of media including HDMI input and SDXC memory cards
As well as being equipped with the Sound Master Clock Circuit and incorporating a large number of high grade parts, high-sound quality is achieved through tuning performed by Carrozzeria χ engineers. The unit is fitted with an HDMI port to enable the input of high-quality audio and video, and support for high-capacity SDXC memory cards enables playback of videos and music.
7 ) Supports Linkwith Mode※12※13※14, enabling touch control of smartphone applications from on-board equipment
The unit supports Linkwith Mode, which allows apps on a connected smartphone to be controlled from the on-board equipment. In addition to enabling the playback of music and video stored on a smartphone, the function allows the unit to perform touch control of Linkwith Mode-compatible applications such as Internet radio, video, dining and weather information. In addition, applications not compatible with Linkwith Mode still support Smartphone Control Mode, where they can be controlled from the smartphone unit and enjoyed on the large screen of the CYBER NAVI.
8 ) High-quality route searches via the Smart Loop traffic congestion information™ system compatible with bulk acquisition of traffic regulation information on nationwide toll roads targeting all of the roughly 700,000 km of roads in Japan※15
The Smart Loop traffic congestion information™ system, which targets all of the roughly 700,000 km of roads in Japan (except for very narrow laneways), can now obtain nationwide information on toll road closures and blocked entrances in bulk ,enabling users to perform route searches with higher quality than ever before.
