Pioneer’s GHG Emissions Reduction Targets Approved by SBTi

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)*, an international corporate climate action organization, approved in May 2025 the reduction targets that Pioneer Corporation had submitted for the Group’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to be achieved by the fiscal year ending March 31, 2031 (FY2031).

Pioneer Group’s near-term reduction targets for GHG emissions, sanctioned by the SBTi
  • To reduce the Group’s overall Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% from the FY2021 level by FY2031
  • To reduce the Group’s overall Scope 3 Category 1 (purchased goods and services) and Category 11 (use of sold products) GHG emissions by 42% from the FY2021 level by FY2031
  • To ask suppliers of goods and services responsible for 10% of the Group’s overall Scope 3 Category 1 GHG emissions to establish GHG emissions reduction targets based on the SBTi criteria by FY2029

The Paris Agreement, an international treaty binding signatory nations to combat climate change, was adopted in 2015. It mandates businesses in signatory states to establish science-based reduction targets for GHG emissions and implement measures to achieve them. The collective goal is to limit the global average temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

The Pioneer Group’s Philosophy on Environmental Protection states that the Group strives to “contribute to maintaining and realizing the rich and safe global environment through our corporate activities, based on the general understanding that it is one of our corporate missions to maintain, improve, and hand over the global environment to the next generation.” In pursuant of this philosophy, we focus our environmental initiatives on:

  1. Prevention of global warming
  2. Conservation of resources, and recycling
  3. Management of chemical substances
  4. Preservation of biodiversity

In alignment with our objectives to attain SBTi-approved standards and safeguard and enhance the global environment, the Pioneer Group is resolute in its commitment to making wider use of renewable energy in its operations, offering a more extensive spectrum of environmentally responsible products and services, and contributing to the reduction of supply-chain GHG emissions.
