"PIONEER" Approved as Famous Trademark in China

September 25, 2007, Tokyo, Japan - "PIONEER" and "先鋒", meaning "Pioneer" in Chinese, were officially approved as famous trademarks of China in Category 9, Audio Equipment on September 14, 2007. The Pioneer trademarks follow the six Japanese companies' trademarks that have been already approved as such in China. (Trademarks of four Japanese companies including Pioneer were approved on this occasion.)

When a trademark is designated as famous trademark by the National Administration of Industry and Commerce and other authorities in China, it is recognition that the trademark has become known throughout the country. The fact that the Pioneer trademarks have received famous trademark designation is thought to reflect a recognition on the part of Chinese authorities for the many years of hard work that Pioneer has devoted to achieving brand awareness through its sales and promotional activities in China.

China's official approval of the Pioneer trademarks will extend the protection area of the Pioneer trademarks in China. It will be easier for Pioneer to reach appropriate resolutions more quickly, by preventing illicit registrations by third parties or eliminating the unauthorized use of its trademarks, especially in the product areas in which Pioneer has not registered its trademarks.
