Pioneer Obtains ISO-14001 Certification Covering
All Headquarters Divisions

On March 28, 2001, Pioneer Corporation (President: Kaneo Ito) received the certification for ISO-14001 International Environmental Management System standards from the Japan Audit and Certification Organization (JACO). This certification covers all organizations located at Pioneer's Meguro (Tokyo) Corporate Headquarters, which includes Sales Divisions.

As of the end of February 2001, Pioneer had already obtained ISO-14001 certification at 22 of its primary manufacturing subsidiaries and plants in Japan and overseas.

In June 1998, Pioneer established the Division of Environmental Preservation, located at its headquarters, to create a system for promoting environmental protection on a company-wide basis. Since then, the headquarters has implemented a number of measures aimed at preserving the environment, such as increasing the use of unleaded solder in its products and reducing products' standby-power consumption to 0.5 watts. Then, in June 2000, Pioneer established an environmental policy and has expanded these activities into daily office operations, such as reducing electricity consumption and using less paper.

As a result of these united efforts, all 52 organizations located in and around the Meguro district, referred to as the "Headquarter Meguro Site," became ISO-14001 certified. Included are 16 Headquarters' administrative divisions such as legal affairs, finance, and personnel; a total of 17 divisions such as the Sales Division of each internal companies operating under the jurisdiction of Headquarters; and 19 affiliated companies such as Pioneer Service Network Co., Ltd.

JACO praised Pioneer Headquarters for their well-planned promotion tailored to individual business operations, leading to their decision to award the certification.

ISO-14001 certification for Pioneer's overseas regional headquarters is planned for completion by March 31, 2002. In addition, all non-production locations within the Pioneer Group in Japan and overseas are to become ISO-14001 certified by March 31, 2005.

Now that we've entered the 21st century, Pioneer is placing Customer Satisfaction at the center of its management policy as it works towards realizing its corporate philosophy of "Move the heart and touch the soul." Pioneer recognizes that tackling tough environmental issues is one of the Company's most important undertakings.

Pioneer will continue to report on these activities in its "Environmental Report," which the Company has published since fiscal 1999.
