Initiatives in Business Activities

Concept of Environmental Activities
in Business Activities

A consistent concept of developing environmentally-friendly products in energy-saving business offices and manufacturing products in eco-factories is shared not only in Japan, but also globally. We also promote improvement activities utilizing the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. In addition, the Environmental Management Systems in each plant and office and domestic group companies are integrated, and activities of the entire organization are developed toward more ambitious targets.
Data of 18 companies in Japan and 18 companies overseas is collected and feedback is reflected in the activities in the following year. The “Environmental Activities Report” summarizing the results is proactively disclosed on our website.

Setting of Management Items
(Environmental Impact Assessments)

Pioneer conducts a global environmental impact assessment to determine the environmental management items for business sites. In our business form, energy use (greenhouse gas emissions) has a large impact on global warming, accounting for 88% of the total. In addition, in order to ensure that efforts are made for resource recycling through development and production activities at our bases, we are accumulating and evaluating the performance against the target values at each business site every quarter. Other items are managed as annual monitoring items.

Environmental impact assessment method: Environmental aspect = Environmental factor (for example, annual power consumption) multiplied by a coefficient calculated by LIME (damage calculation type life cycle assessment method).

Targets, Plans and Performance in Fiscal 2018

The Pioneer Group is working to prevent global warming, to recycle resources and to reduce environmentally hazardous substances. In fiscal 2018 we succeeded in achieving 9 out of our 11 targets. Based on this result, we will set targets for our activities in fiscal 2019 and fiscal 2020.

By regulation of Zero emission of waste (Pioneer's definition), it judges for every plant.

The target material is 20 kinds for JEITA's independence reduction activity.

Operation of Environmental Management System

While environmental activities primarily focusing on global warming have taken on increasing importance. Pioneer integrated its environmental management system which was promoted in each office and plant and group companies throughout Japan. We ensure implementation of PDCA* in groups in Japan and have expand activities throughout the entire company and striving for more ambitious targets. We will further enhance the results of environmental activities for the entire Pioneer group in the future, and we are looking toward expansion to group companies worldwide.

PDCA stands for Plan, Do, Check and Act.

Environmental Policies Plan Do Check ISO14001 Certification Act Internal Environmental Audit Continuous Improvement

We conduct internal environmental audits regularly at each facility to check the effectiveness of the environmental management system and promote continuous improvement and we acquired the ISO 14001 certification. The Pioneer Group has 225 active internal environmental auditors. Along with implementing these improvements, efforts are being made to share information between all facilities in order to ramp up environmental activities.
