<< Design Philosophy >>

In 1997, Pioneer introduced the PDP-501HD, a 50V Hi-Vision (Japanese HDTV system) plasma display system equipped with the world's first high-definition wide XGA panel, to the Japanese consumer market. Since then, Pioneer has been striving to create new markets for thin, large-screen, high-definition displays. At the end of 2001 when Pioneer introduced a third generation of products, it added a 43-inch model to strengthen the lineup. Today, Pioneer plasma displays are the gathering momentum, highly regarded from a large number of customers.
With the expansion of Hi-Vision programs for BS digital broadcasts expected to continue in Japan and the start of 110-degree CS digital broadcasts in April this year, demand for high-definition television sets is growing. On the other hand, as the user base expands, increasing numbers of customers are also asking for screen sizes a little smaller than 43 inches.
It is in response to these needs that Pioneer has announced the commercial release of the 30V high-definition LCD Color TV. Now with a wide choice of screen sizes from 30V to 50V, Pioneer expects that the new market for thin, large-screen, high-definition TVs with high picture quality will expand even further.

*1 The "V" for "30V" represents the size of the effective viewing area of plasma displays, LCD and other flat, direct-vision type TV displays, based on their diagonal dimensions.
*2 "Pure Vision" is a brand name for Pioneer's Hi-Vision plasma display systems, high-definition plasma display monitors.

<< Main Features >>

1 ) Equipped with 30V high-definition LCD supporting digital Hi-Vision broadcasts

The PDL-30HD is equipped with a horizontal 1280 x vertical 768 -pixel high-definition XGA panel capable of highly detailed reproduction of pictures from digital Hi-Vision broadcasts. The ASV*3 low-reflection Black TFT LCD features a wide viewing angle and high contrast, and the high-efficiency backlight system produces a bright picture.

*3 ASV (Advanced Super View) : a new structure of liquid crystal that deters the external reflections, sharpening the reproduction of black color for higher contrast even in a bright room.

2 ) BS digital/110-degree CS Hi-Vision tuner built into a thin body

The PDL-30HD houses a built-in tuner that provides fully comprehensive support for all the services and formats of BS digital broadcasts. This model also supports the 110-degree CS digital broadcasts that started regular services in this April, allowing users to enjoy 110-degree CS digital television, 110-degree CS digital data, and 110-degree CS digital radio broadcasts*4. Since the PDL-30HD is only 9.5 cm deep, this thin, all-in-one unit is easy to install or move.

*4 (In Japan)
a)  To enjoy 110-degree CS digital broadcasts, an antenna and cable for both BS and 110-degree CS digital broadcasts are required. If a booster or distributor is to be used, it must be replaced with a device that supports the 110-degree CS frequency range up to 2,150 MHz.
b)  Except for some channels, 110-degree CS digital broadcasts are a paid service. A contract must be concluded with a broadcaster in order to receive this service.
c)  - SkyPerfecTV! broadcasts that use the JCSAT-3 or JCSAT-4 satellites (at east longitude 128 and 124 degrees, respectively) cannot be received.
d)  Storage-type interactive services are not supported.

3 ) 10W + 10W high-quality sound

Despite its thin shape, the PDL-30HD includes a built-in bass reflex enclosures and double-magnet speakers capable of producing a powerful, high-quality stereo sound. BBE Mach 3 Bass*5 circuitry is combined with the speaker systems to deliver the sound with a deep rich bass.

4 ) Environmentally-friendly design with low power consumption and long life

Despite the large 30V screen, the PDL-30HD's power consumption is only about 154 watts. The environmentally-friendly design also features a long-life backlight of about 60,000 hours.

5 ) Other Features

  1. A wealth of input/output terminals including a D4 video input terminals and i.LINK terminals
The PDL-30HD is equipped with 2 sets of D4 video input terminals to receive digital Hi-Vision signals while preserving high picture quality. Also provided are 2 sets of i.LINK*6 terminals (IEEE 1394) that allows the transmission of information and control signals between devices over a single cable. The basic operations of a D-VHS deck can be controlled via GUI (Graphical User Interface) on the screen and a remote commander. The PDL-30HD also includes a D-sub 15-pin RGB input terminal for use as a computer monitor.
  2. A simple remote controller with limited functions for easier operation, in addition to the main remote controller
