DRM-6324X

DRM-6324X

Tokyo, Japan, September 11, 1997 --- Pioneer Electronic Corporation announced the introduction of the industry's first 24X speed 6-disc CD-ROM changer, the "DRM-6324X" (S.R.P. : ¥74,800/ available at end of Sept.'97/monthly production : 5,000 pcs per month), to the domestic Japanese market.

< Planning Concept >

The demand for a high-speed CD-ROM drive has been increasing as the number of CD-ROMs on the market recently contain useful and entertaining pictorial data. As the sales number of these CD-ROM software have been increasing constantly, it has established its position as a pre-recorded media, and accordingly a user's holding number of discs are increasing rapidly. But with the conventional single-disc drive, the user was forced to switch discs manually, even sometimes using a special command routine.

To answer these requirements of computer users, Pioneer has succeeded in developing an industry first, changer type 24X CD-ROM drive. A magazine, first introduced in 1992, used in Pioneer's CD- ROM changer can hold 6 discs, and a user who possesses a number of discs can easily keep them in order with these magazines, free from troublesome disc changes. The new "DRM-6324X" should be the ideal CD-ROM drive for these kind of users.

< Main Features of DRM-6324X >

1 ) Average 24X data transfer rate and high speed access of 3,600KB/s

Pioneer has made possible high-speed CD-ROM data transfer at 24 times the standard rate. The new DRM-6324X achieves a data transfer speed to over 3,600KB per second, making it a truly ultra high-speed CD-ROM drive.

2 ) An average seek time of 70ms and 90ms access time

The seek time is another major factor in measuring the CD-ROM drive's value. Pioneer's state-of-the art CD-ROM technology provides the kind of super fast random seek and access performance you need to remain at the peak of efficiency. The DRM-6324X boosts an average random seek time of just 70ms and is capable of locating specified data items in less than 90ms(average) during random access.

3 ) 6-Disc Magazine

The DRM-6324X incorporates a patented Pioneer magazine that holds up to six CDs to provide you with almost instant access to a multi-disc database without the need for manual disc switching or special command routines.

  • includes interface software (MS-Dos, Macintosh)
